If you're rooted, you can get the Sholes ROM and choosing the 2.0.1 launcher with 5 homescreens is an option. I don't believe it's available unless you are rooted,

Live backgrounds—those swishy animated wallpapers—and that new 3D grid of app icons aren't part of the package. Instead, the same static backgrounds and the classic Android pop-up app shelf stick around.
Well some good news and some bad news.
At least it is news.

I think they are all piggybacking off of the same non-confirmed news of some guy seeing a test build.
 
Live backgrounds are nice and cool to have, but not really needed IMO. The five home screens on the other hand would be nice to have and will take that over the live backgrounds. :)
 
The story on Gizmodo listed Engadget as a source, so yes, all of these blogs are just repeating what Engadget said. Death to the bloggers.
 
I apologize if this has already been posted but Motorola just posted this on their facebook page:

Motorola: Hi all-- we know you are frustrated with the lack of details regarding Android software upgrades and we sincerely apologize for not being able to share info sooner. We're happy to relay the 2.1 upgrade to DROID will start to roll out this week, and we will have more information to share on other device upgrades later this week as well. Thanks for your patience and continued support.
