Motorola Droid 2.1

I think it will be the same software, just some features not activated such as animated wallpaper, which is no biggie. I don't think we have anything to worry about, as the rest of it we will get.

I hope this isn't the case (i.e. the version of 2.1 for the Droid not having the same features as 2.1 for the N1).

If so, this is a significant issue for how Google is handling Android - too many different versions out there. So what would we have now ?? 1.5, 1.6, 2.0, 2.0.1, 2.1 (Nexus One), 2.1 (Droid)

Way too much fragmentation going on. If Google wants to really get Android to take over, they should almost mandate that phones be upgraded to current versions. Not sure how well that would work, but this is getting ridiculous. I'm sure developers don't like it either because so can't rely on certain features being available in specific phones.

2.0.1 is fine with me. Is there a way to back it up in case 2.1 makes me unhappy? Would a factory reset do this?

I tell you all this eye candy stuff is pretty useless to me. I just don't sit around staring at my wall papers all day. Live wallpaper? Why? Yuck!

I grab the phone, make a call, and/or = use the map, google search, shoot a text, check on my stocks and put the darned thing back in my pocket and so on.

Now speed and battery efficiencies are the things I would like to see.

If a 2.1 never comes I will not miss it.

If you boot into the recovery console "x" while booting you can make a nandroid backup in there.

Hell, we can live without all the features coming in the 2.1 update... I just don't like that they are half-assing us Droid owners. If this is true of course. If I order a bike with bells and whistles and the bike comes but the bells and whistles are gone, thats still half-assed. Even if the bike runs greatly.

I love my rooted Droid, but if they are going to be giving us half-assed updates... I hope the Nexus One comes to Verizon before my 30 days are up... or Im going to cancel my 30 days, and wait for the Nexus One... not because of the phone... the phone is great, but the half-assedness that we are getting.

Bullcrapitus.

Bugless Beast for the win.

Wow, now I REALLY have no reason to unroot. Seems to me our indy devs do a better job than the pros. I mean, at this point the 2.1 update is giving us NOTHING we can't already get. Pointless.

The screens will be there and flash will not until the next release(unless something changes with flash because of the devour) and 3D app drawer should be too.

These guys could very well be looking at a beta build. This is from a "trusted source", but these same sources said this was coming last month. I remember someone here saying something about them not having a full build until the 12th of this month or so, if my memory serves. I'm not getting worked up about this until the update is pushed out to our phones, just because things change daily.
