Motorola Droid 2.1

Its likely that 01/22/10 was going to be the day that Motorola and VZW were going to push the 2.1 update; however, they may have backed off with guidance from Google in regards to the addition of multi-touch for the core OS apps (like the N1 just got).

Google may have informed them that they wanted multi-touch to be available, and instead of VZW and Moto pushing out one update followed by a second, they decided to retract the update and release it with all the features the N1 has as of the OTA push yesterday.

Or I could be wrong...

that sounds like a very reasonable speculation IMO.

Humm... well I don't have the guts yet..... just one thread alone has almost 1000 post on the Hack section.

Seems this rooting to 2.1 is by not means and exact science and many folks are still having issues while others are doing great..... its a lot to learn "thats an understatement"

Without a confindence it hard to tackle. That thread has gone on for so long you can't tell whats new and what old..... you would have to literally study the whole thing to understand what to skip "because its old info" and what to apply.

Is there someone thats already done the rooting to 2.1 that started with no knowledge at first that can offer some encouragement, because right now it seems suicide to just start wiping out a perfectly good working Droid in hopes to make it better.

i did it with no prior info or experience with rooting a phone, just follow those steps and it's golden, I updated today to the latest and it has pinch/zoom on the browser and maps by default.

You will love it... trust me.

i have zero issues.

I can grasp the concept of rooting but I just don't wanna take the leap I'm scared to mess something up and there is the fear of losing my warranty fml

I currently am within my 30 days and have noticed a defect in my phone (not brought on by rooting) and want to return it.

I've never worked with Linux before and just tried rooting last night. Honestly if I had to return it to Best Buy the way it is now I doubt the guys working there would notice that it's been rooted.

It doesn't look like a jailbroken iPhone where you see things being done with the phone that you couldn't do otherwise.

So killing your warranty wouldn't really be a concern of mine if that were the only thing holding me back from rooting.

Just my 2 cents though... :)

If you're phone breaks suddenly and is so borked that you can't connect to it with ADB and re-flash a stock ROM, then the person that's doing the return authorization won't be able to ascertain anything about the phone either. Have fun! ;)

There's no way that is real. It doesn't look anything like the previous Verizon update PDFs.

Agreed, and there is no copyright markings in the footer of the document, as well as the old Motorola logo is used in place of the current black one they are using, the graphic used to identify VZW looks pretty shoddy as well as it's not sized appropriately for 100% viewing (note the blurring on "wireless" and pixelation of the check mark), the logos are not centered horizontally, and the "Motorola Droid" should read "Motorola DROID™).

Looks convincing on the outside, but the graphics low quality, and the too many balancing mistakes with the placement of logos and pictures.

since there is such a volume of information out there and its hard to tell whats updated, relavant and needed... would you mind either pointing us to a link that has the latest 1,2,3, or make a new one and point us to that link?

I don't want to divert this thread any more than it is already.... trying my best to stay on topic! :)
