Motorola Droid 2.1

With all the hype and advertising that went into the Droid, I don't think it's cool to be left in the dust.

I have been very loyal to Verizon for many many years. I waited for so long to finally get a cool phone like the Droid. But it upsets me that Verizon is ALWAYS lagging in the area of the latest coolest phones. And now lagging in the latest software for the phones they do have.

They are the best out there, but don't seem to have the power to get anything.

I posted much earlier in the thread about how soon the Droid would no longer being the "darling". Don't know when that will happen but I sure hope they push us out a little more love before it happens.

Obviously, you were never a Nextel customer.

Everyone needs to realize that the Droid is not going to be receiving the 2.1 OS anytime soon. Why? You ask? Because there needs to be a selling point for the nexus one when it hits Verizon.

Let's start the thread over...
I'll start....
2.1 is out! I got it! A friend told me that his buddy knows a verizon worker who heard off droidforums.net that 2.1 was going to be released on 2/2. He was right! Is everyone else enjoying 2.1? I can't believe I can watch Blu-Ray movies and print documents right out of the phone! Rumor is that 2.2 is scheduled for sometime late Feb.

LMFAO!! I can't believe. It. I heard the same thing!

if i was google i would change that little banner add of the nexus one above the thread to. "i'm running 2.1 right now" or "if you spent the same amount of time working as you have going crazy on this thread you could have purchased a nexus one"

this is pathetic, i want my 2.1 NOW, it doesnt take that hard considering all they have to do is make 2.1 compatible, i mean the droid does run STOCK 2.0

The selling point is not so much of 2.1 for the N1, but the hardware. People have a choice whether they want a slide out physical qwerty keyboard or more of a slim-form factor without the physical keyboard. Also with the AMOLED screen or Droid's slightly higher-res screen. Between the Droid and Nexus One for Verizon is merely choice. Regardless of the N1, people will buy the Droid or the N1 regardless of 2.1. Just like people were still buying the HTC Eris despite it having 1.6 due to the form factor and all.

The sales don't reflect this. I would've picked the Eris if it ran and was able (inside hardware ) to run 2.0. A person that bought the Droid is not the same demographic that bought the Eris. This thread is a testament to that.

Wow with the announcement of pinch to zoom, that Apple/Google relationship must've really went to shambles. I felt like that was the last agreement/understanding between the two once allied companies.

If all your wanting is pinch zoom.. download the dolphin browser and you can have it now!... thats right 2.0.1 supports pinch zoom just fine.

Yep.... thats the angle I see too... its all about money baby!... The Droid's market share is somewhat saturated and they want the new flagship to carry some dazzle.

If the Droid gets it now.... whats the incentive for buying the nexus?.... few of us even need or want a global phone.

I hope I'm wrong.

On the other hand... I do like Amoled on a phone "not so much on a TV.. its just not realistic and is too bright" but on a phone looks really nice! and I never use my keyboard...... so there is a market for the Nexus too..... just because its different!
