Motorola Droid 2.1

I thought I should just throw my guess on a release date since everyone else is. I predict it will be released on 2-14 because Motorola wants everyone to know they have a valentine on Valentine's day.

Seriously, it is an awesome phone as it is. 2.1 will be here when it gets here. What are people going to do when it does come out? Are we going to hear about the next upgrade? I am looking forward to 2.1 but if it comes tomorrow or in two months I really don't care.

Dont VZW/Motorola/Google HAVE to deliver Flash, multitouch and other features? The advertisements promised them, and the Droid web-site had a circle of features that were either currently available or would be down the road. I suspect if they didn't make an effort to deliver them all that you'd have a pretty good argument for a refund on your phone and an end to your contract sans ETF. I wouldnt even consider that, but one would think that they are going to have to deliver on the promises because of this, and some relaxing is in order.

It better happen soon. I really hate this phone because of how poor the OS is. People are willing to accept mediocre products released much too far in advance and call it "the best phone" when clearly it is not. There is no "best phone" out there as far as I am concerned. The iphone sucks unless you jailbreak it, and this one sucks because they rushed it out before the OS was ready IMO. I've had this thing for 2 months now and it fails at 50% of everything I ask it to do.

Yes, this is my first smart phone for those that are going to ask, but I waited because I wanted a product that was going to work... not something that only works half of the time. We shouldn't have to accept that problems "come with the territory" of owning a smart phone. They should get their crap together before releasing it. /rant

Let's hope whatever they do is better than what we have currently. Although I have been throwing the idea around of rooting this thing. I was going to wait until this upcoming release (if it ever happens) to see what that brings, but with this stupid thing failing so much I don't know that I can. If it sucks this bad already, why not try something else?

Sorry... I'm on my 3rd Droid because they all have had different OS and sensor issues, and it still is a heap of steaming poop.

Yeah, I'm pretty *****d too. I thought it was going to make me breakfast and stuff...

Seriously? Try rocking a Storm for a while and let me know how that goes. I hear Jitterbug is a good phone.

I could use the extra home pages, but my Droid has been flawless so far. I'm sorry to hear some of you have issues. I can wait... for now.

It already has multi-touch. There are several apps that take advantage of that fact.

Multi-touch EVERYWHERE. Speech recognition EVERYWHERE. Browser that isn't choppy as SH**. Overall performance that isn't hit or miss. Camera is garbage, no better than the cheap POS last Samsung throwaway phone that I had.

Why, when I touch something, does it highlight yellow (which informs me that it recognized the input), then does NOTHING? Why does it indicate it recognizes input, then does nothing with that input?

This happens in every mode/aspect of the phone.

2.01 sucks. 2.1 isn't about getting fluff (at least not to me), it's about fixing the Droid.

Is it too much to ask that a phone allows me to use the phone functions properly since above all that is what it is supposed to be?

Is it too much to ask that a device meant to have SMS messaging actually open said messenging application when prompted and actually show the messages that I receive?

Is it too much to ask that my home page icons come up when I am at the home page?

Is it too much to ask for the sensors to work properly and for the screen to light properly?

Is it too much to ask for a device to basically work as it should as promised by the numerous companies involved with the development/marketing (heh)/sales/service of the phone?

I'm sorry that you subjected yourself to the Storm or any BB product for that matter. I however, was not foolish enough to do such a thing. I was however foolish enough to purchase this phone when I heard all of the hype about how great it was only to find that it has more issues than a highschool girl. I have found that it is not just I that feels this way, as we all have had at least one of the above issues at some point (as found on this forum) and we shouldn't have to accept those problems as "part of the territory" of owning a "smartphone" as I said previously.

That said... this update needs to be here yesterday.

Not everyone has had the issues....I couldn't be happier with my Droid.

But I do understand the frustration people are having....

I can honestly say i never had any of the issues you have listed. When i originally got the phone i was not going to root or flash it but now im running a bugless beauty rom and overclocked to 800MHz and i still have absolutely no issues... I take that back. if i do a nandroid backup i lose my icons twice and have to resart twice but thats it.

Sounds like you just got some bad luck or happened to get a phone(s) out of a bad batch maybe. I did not get the droid right away instead i got the imagio then decided i am tired of windows mobile and devices with poor mem management. I am 1000% satisfied with my decision to get the droid

I'm hopeful that the delay means we are going to see a newer version than 2.1 with bug-fixes beyond those in the N1 build...and maybe even App2SD support.

But, I have come to the realization that despite those of us experiencing bugs in 2.0.1 that should be fixed in 2.1, Motorola looks at 2.1 as an enhancement rather than a bug-fix.

On the other hand, 2.0.1 was a bug-fix release and Motorola had a good reason to fix problems with 2.0 ASAP (Droid marked the return of Motorola). Now that there are a large number of satisfied Droid owners, Motorola has less to prove and they are going to be more cautious.

Yeah... all 3 of my phones are from 3 different places. With this last one, I haven't even put any apps on it for fear one of them was causing the ultimate fail. My only explination is that it is the OS.... I would suggest user error, but if I hand the phone off to others, the problems follow the device, not just the user.

I do however, find it hard to believe that some of you have not had ANY of the above mentioned problems after reading this forum and using my phone and experiencing the issues I have had. *shrug*

Ha! I don't think there are too many here that DON'T know that frustration. I feel for ya.

I'm also getting a sneaky suspicion that 2.1 isn't going to be the "gold code" that some think. Quotes from the developers page:
"Android 2.1 is a minor platform release"
"Android 2.1 does not add significant user features, see the Android 2.0 Platform Highlights document for the latest user features."

It'll be neat for sure, but I don't think it's going to be a breathtaking difference.

Sounds like 90% PEBKAC error. You need to go to another phone, IMO.

But thanks for expressing your concern.

My Linux Senior Systems Admin husband (just stating this as he should be pretty computer/device savvy) has tried using this thing and had the same issues. His response was "I wouldn't want this thing if someone gave it to me." (I got him a PEBKAC shirt last Christmas though :))
