Motorola Droid 2.1

All sarcasam aside, if I was a Moto customer care rep. fielding a million calls about 2.1, I would get sick of it and start makin stuff up...but I guess thats just me. :icon_ devil:

Like a lot of people have said, I want 2.1 last week. But if they delay it to make it as stable & compatible with the Droid as they possibly can, I can hold out.

I have the Launcher 2.1, Gallery 2.1, & Music 2.1, so I'm good for a bit. I just don't want to have to root my phone, still new to this little black beauty & I don't want to screw anything up (even though it sounds simple enough & I've been working on computers for YEARS).

As a comment to everyone posting "flan" links, there is no flan. Android 2.1 is also Eclair and google said the next Android release would be Froyo, not flan.

Thank you.

SO i have been having a bunch of little problems with my droid....I talked to somedoy at motorola and they gave me a verizon vendor phone number and code. After speaking with the guy from verizon he asked me which version and build number i had. I told him 2.0.1 and esd56. He informed me against sending in a new one RIGHT NOW because he was talking about an update....he said he would call me in a week to see if I am running into the same problems....hmmmmmmm

I just got off the phone with a chimp and he said you were an idiot.:icon_ banana:

While there may be some validity to this we do try to avoid name calling. This thread is already in deep with the mods, don't need to fuel the fire.

If all your wanting is pinch zoom.. download the dolphin browser and you can have it now!... thats right 2.0.1 supports pinch zoom just fine.

To paraphrase the movie Waterboy:

Hey Droid Boy! Dolphin Sucks! xScope is Better!

Dolphin Sucks... it really really SUCKS!

hehe. okay. so what are the rumored dates again? hehe. :icon_ devil:

2.1?

BHDave10 may be on to something... DON'T KILL THE MESSENGER! I am a long time fan and reader of this forum, although I never make any posts (mostly because I have nothing interesting or useful to add). However, upon seeing BHDave10's recent post, I did some investigation myself by calling Motorola. To my surprise I recieved a similar answer. They did not claim the dispute between them and Google. Instead, they claimed that the Droid will not receive any more updates because of "Technical Problems". I asked if there was a problem with the hardware or software with the Droid phone and they said that there is nothing wrong with the phone and could not comment more on the issue. My conclusion is that there is truly a dispute between Motorola and Google and a 2.1 update is not looking good (should have bought the Droid Eris or waited for the Nexus One...). Either way, I hope you found this information useful and once again please do not shoot the messenger! I have been a Droid user since November and did not expect my phone to do what it does when I first purchased it. Guess I should have listened to the Droid Does commercials; however, when it come to 2.1 apparently Droid Doesn't!

Ok, I want to believe what people write.... but all we need is for a regular member to make the call and verify this info.

I keep hearing that motorola is planning a superbowl suprise...I guess you can sign up somewhere to be notified on your phone right before the "surprise" happens on tv, so you can make sure you don't miss it. Don't know if it's related to 2.1, or motoblur, or something else though.

I'd love to see in all CAPS on my tv..."SORRY DROID USERS...the rumors are TRUE, THERES NO 2.1 FOR YOU...BUT HERE COMES 2.2!!" ...bleep bleep, OTA activated.

I know Im not a longtime member but just got off the phone with Moto and there is "an official update but they are not allowed to talk about a timeframe.":motdroidhoriz:

Since Google released the source code for 2.1 (by the GPL they have to, except for the closed source apps) and anyone could take the source code and do what ever they want with the code. So in a sense, Motorola could still release 2.1 for the Droids and Google has to sit there. Now, getting around the closed source apps, just do like CM did, do a backup first, then install the update the do a restore to get the google apps back.

If true, could this possibly be in relation to Google stalling the Motorola China launch?

I'd have to disagree with this just on pure business common sense (something I'm only ASSUMING these companies have). Verizon and ATT are this countries two largest carriers.......T-Mobile has a very small market share compared to them. Even with the Nexus out now, the Droid is still Google's biggest phone right now just due to pure numbers. There are simply more Droids in the market than Nexus at the moment. Which means that all these nifty Moto's that we are all carrying around are advertising GOLD for Google. It's the first google phone to really show that it CAN do what an Iphone can do, on the largest network in the US. I just can't see Google intentionally neglecting one of the biggest markets they could hope to break into, which also happens to be the market where they can compete with the phone they designed their phone to compete with. It's an easy numbers game..........the Droid WILL sell more units than the Nexus until they bring the Nexus to more carriers (THEN we might have something to worry about), Google would be insane to stiff all of their Verizon customers, and Moto would be twice as insane with the Droid beings IT'S flagship device.
