Motorola Droid 2.1

There are some of us that read every post starting where we left off. And there are some that read nothing and simply ask a question regardless if it is answered in the post directly above theirs.

P.S. I truly believe the update to 2.1 will be coming out "soon". :)

Looks like Verizon added SOFTWARE UPDATE on their official Droid site.

I posted a screenshot of this about an hour ago, guess no one noticed...

So do we think Verizon will be able to live with an open source OS without hedging it in "like Apple" fearing Moto's release is too easily manipulated to do things that are forbidden against the best interest of Verizon? "when it gets rooted"

I"m new to rooting but I guess this is an issue no matter what the OS is and if man can create it Man can alter it too.

I see these movies where these guys are using their devices to access Satellite signals bypassing the network entirely... at some point they will put on the brakes... or is that not really possible any more than making a virus proof windows?

Hopefully Verizon just wants to streamline some stuff or customize some features a bit.

Maybe "this" is some of what I"m thinking..... This is a Nov 6,09 article

All of those efforts combined point to a successful device launch capable of going head-to-head with AT&T and the Apple iPhone. But, Verizon seems to be doing everything it can to make the Droid as unappealing as possible by nickel and diming customers so that actually using it is not cost-effective.

With all this talk of "Soon" from Motorola and Verizon, it makes me wonder if they licensed that term from Blizzard.

Soon: Copyright 2004-2010 Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. All rights reserved. "Soon" does not imply any particular date, time, decade, century, or millennia in the past, present, and certainly not the future. "Soon" shall make no contract or warranty between Blizzard Entertainment and the end user. "Soon" will arrive some day, Blizzard does guarantee that "soon" will be here before the end of time. Maybe. Do not make plans based on "soon" as Blizzard will not be liable for any misuse, use, or even casual glancing at "soon."

lol, I am still waiting for Diablo III!

How do you people know that its not in Moto's hands anymore and we're waiting on Verizon? Where have you read that other than from unreliable sources?

Our point exactly - Motorola is leaving us in the dark. They're flip-flopping and retracting things left and right. They're putting out false information about one of their major products, and refusing to clarify their mistakes with factual information. Honestly... the Bush administration was more organized!
EmmVeePee with all due respect you are in way over your head on this one.

First off Motorola is not retracting things left and right. They retracted the release of 2.1 and it's features because they believed, rightfully or wrongfully, that once the "final" build was submitted to VZW that it would IMMEDIATELY be released.

VZW simply put the breaks on the whole thing because the build MUST pass testing FIRST. That's why everything was yanked down.

Moto does NOT, nor will they EVER, dictate when a software release gets pushed. Never going to happen. Don't believe me? Go find somebody in the "know" and ask them or simply examine what just happened.

I'd also like to add that if Mother Verizon does not like something on the build you can bet they will not release it. They will tell Motorola "it's great but..........." and back it goes. Of course there is a plan in place beforehand so these things don't happen but as they say crap happens sometimes. Not saying this applies to this particular release. So don't misconstrue what I'm saying.

This is out of Motorolas hands now and their statement that they acted prematurely is a precise and accurate statement. Mom put her foot down and said "hold up, we're not releasing anything yet."

So all this backlash on Motorola is misplaced anger. Again, Motorola believed it was a submit and release and this was clearly not the case. They made a big mistake and Verizon made them correct it.

This is not speculation this is fact.

Just curious. Wouldnt motorola have already known that verizon wouldnt just push out the release? I dont really know how these things opperate so Im just asking. To me, you would think motorola would have know verizon would subject it to testing and not release it immediatly. Didnt they go through this process once before with the 2.0.1 release?

Maybe someone "accidental" removed the Verizon VM app

Yea but things may have went smoother with 2.0.1..... All it takes is a red flag to slow the whole process.

I wish the update would get released so I can focus on rooting... that sounds like where the real fun is at.

Wow, all night and not a single post. People must really be burnt out with this... lol

And I guess there are not lots of people waking up to an update notice.

They both gave us great phones and don't owe us jack...

They are being nice enough to provide us with an update "soon".

Thou they are in no means obligated to do so.

They didn't 'give' us anything, we paid for these phones. If anything the Droid for all intents and purpose saved Motorola as a company and put them back on the map. Given the open nature of the Android OS, they are obligated within reason to provide updates related to advancements and especially bug fixes.

By not retaining any kind of support they realize they would lose customer baseline to competitors, especially for future purchases.
