Motorola Droid 2.1

well i didn't want to post on any of these 2.1 threads and add to the madness :icon_ devil: but since I was talking to VZW tech support and Moto tech support tonight ... I may as well add my bits...

VZW rep was telling me about the software update being on its way soon to help me decide whether to exchange my Droid or wait it out and see if an update will fix it so I don't have to deal with the hassle.

She said they received the memo today that update was coming soon, but no date yet ... she said "in the past, soon has always meant within the week so it should be SOON"

this was in a discussion on whether i should wait to see if Moto was adding in a software update/fix for the muted/dropped calls that many have been experiencing. They are apparently aware of that issue about a month ago and at that time, in need of more 'samples' of the problem so they could forward it to developers for a fix. She explained that often the reason updates are pushed back are because some new bugs present themselves and they try to add as many fixes into one update as possible.

ETA: She also said they send it out to a few phones at first to see how stable it is before sending it to the masses.

To think that they took it down to add more features is retarded.

How do you people know that its not in Moto's hands anymore and we're waiting on Verizon? Where have you read that other than from unreliable sources?

Our point exactly - Motorola is leaving us in the dark. They're flip-flopping and retracting things left and right. They're putting out false information about one of their major products, and refusing to clarify their mistakes with factual information. Honestly... the Bush administration was more organized!

EmmVeePee with all due respect you are in way over your head on this one.

First off Motorola is not retracting things left and right. They retracted the release of 2.1 and it's features because they believed, rightfully or wrongfully, that once the "final" build was submitted to VZW that it would IMMEDIATELY be released.

VZW simply put the breaks on the whole thing because the build MUST pass testing FIRST. That's why everything was yanked down.

Moto does NOT, nor will they EVER, dictate when a software release gets pushed. Never going to happen. Don't believe me? Go find somebody in the "know" and ask them or simply examine what just happened.

I'd also like to add that if Mother Verizon does not like something on the build you can bet they will not release it. They will tell Motorola "it's great but..........." and back it goes. Of course there is a plan in place beforehand so these things don't happen but as they say crap happens sometimes. Not saying this applies to this particular release. So don't misconstrue what I'm saying.

This is out of Motorolas hands now and their statement that they acted prematurely is a precise and accurate statement. Mom put her foot down and said "hold up, we're not releasing anything yet."

So all this backlash on Motorola is misplaced anger. Again, Motorola believed it was a submit and release and this was clearly not the case. They made a big mistake and Verizon made them correct it.

This is not speculation this is fact.
