Mobil Hotspot info/opinions please

Just ordered a droid x2 and should get it tomorrow.
I think I saw that the phone offers the mobil hotspot for it.

Today I started thinking though that it may be useful to me, as I just bought a android tablet that is wifi, and laptop is wifi etc...

But how it will work in my mind is one thing. The reality of the mobil hotspot is what I need you guys to fill me in on.

Basically if you use it please let me know how you like it. Is it slow internet speeds, or hard to connect with say a laptop. Any opinions would be helpful.

Here's my take on it, and many won't agree.

You're paying another $20 or so a month to get the same data speed.

So the route I went was to root and tether. Many of us do it and honestly see nothing against it as it's a service that should be provided as we're paying for the same data anyway. It works great and is essentially "free" compared to VZW mobile hotspot plan.
