That's what I used to call it as well until I saw a few demo vids where they referred to it as me you ee or myoo wee

Probably due to exposure to other languages (ex. spanish), where vowels only have one possible sound.

a = ah
e = a
i = e
o = o
u = ou

Of course the you in the middle is just laziness, or because its smoother off the tongue.
