For many of us the most powerful computer we have sits in our pockets. Smartphones easily match the performance of most laptops these days, still there are many instances where you need more of a desktop environment. I write and edit videos exclusively on a laptop even though my smartphone is plenty powerful to do both tasks. Mainly this is due to the smaller screen of my smartphone and the lack of a keyboard and mouse.
With smartphones as powerful as the latest flagships why should we need to spend $800 on a phone and anther $1000 on a laptop? With the Maru Rom you can turn your smartphone into a PC. Once you have the rom installed and plug your phone into an external monitor the phone launches Debian via chroot and outputs that to the secondary monitor while the phone continues to run untouched Android. For now the Rom only runs on Nexus 5 however the rom was only announced on February 4th. I am sure it will be ported to a wide variety of devices soon! Head to the link below to see grab the Rom and see which bluetooth Mouse and keyboard are supported.
