Maru Rom Turns Your Phone Into A PC!

For many of us the most powerful computer we have sits in our pockets. Smartphones easily match the performance of most laptops these days, still there are many instances where you need more of a desktop environment. I write and edit videos exclusively on a laptop even though my smartphone is plenty powerful to do both tasks. Mainly this is due to the smaller screen of my smartphone and the lack of a keyboard and mouse.

With smartphones as powerful as the latest flagships why should we need to spend $800 on a phone and anther $1000 on a laptop? With the Maru Rom you can turn your smartphone into a PC. Once you have the rom installed and plug your phone into an external monitor the phone launches Debian via chroot and outputs that to the secondary monitor while the phone continues to run untouched Android. For now the Rom only runs on Nexus 5 however the rom was only announced on February 4th. I am sure it will be ported to a wide variety of devices soon! Head to the link below to see grab the Rom and see which bluetooth Mouse and keyboard are supported.

I suppose if you only use your laptop for browsing the internet and reading/writing emails this is true but anyone using spreadsheets of any complexity or rendering files will find their flagship smartphone woefully deficient.

Nexus 5 has a Quad Core 2.2GHz CPU with 2GB ram. This is still kinda on low end of a Laptop. plus its not x86 Architecture so there is Limitations with Software that can be used and Compatibility. It would be used for at best Basic Office Work (Internet & Documents). Doesnt Android Devices have this ability already and you can just miracast or connect an HDMI to a large screen with Bluetooth Mouse and Keyboard with Stock Roms.
