Mark Does It.. Bill Does It... Perhaps You Should As Well!!

Completely different devices and UIs. The smart TV can access the internet and open up a website a hacker created to be compromised. While a printer is a dumb device waiting for a print spool.

Doesn't matter, wifi enabled means you can access the network if you can spoof the mac address etc etc... better disable all wifi devices.

MY desktop webcam points at the ceiling unless I'm gone, sometimes I point it at the door and remote in to view what's going on... I've also set it to motion detection before... my latptop I do tape...

if wifi enabled is bad then disable you cellphone wifi, laptop wifi, game system, tablet, smart watch, etc etc... you can't prevent everything and a smart TV behind a router is just as protected as your laptop... either one can be broken into.

that's why my desktop is always hardwired...

Our hospital webcams come with covers :)

They can search the IRQ and turn it back on.

I've had tape over my camera's for years. I'll never get a smart TV for this reason as well.

Same here. I won't buy a TV with a camera and such.
I don't need or want that.

I don't use my desktop enough to worry about this. Plus, my computer is sitting on top of my kitchen table, with a white wall behind it. Nothing to see here! Most of the time my computer is powered off anyway because I use my phone for everything. I did have a webcam once that came with a cover years ago. Guess now I know why.

This has been a practice of mine for a long time now. I either tape it or rotate a standalone webcam to a wall. It was a classmate of mine back in HS that made me do it. He basically controlled other classmates' computers in the school. Saw it with my own eyes [emoji28]

I thought I was cool enough to know a bit of programming since I was taking classes, but he was completely ahead from anyone I know personally. For fun, he asked me if I think that he can or cannot make a computer crash just by using his computer. Sure enough, one computer in our classroom crashed. So when he told me to cover my webcams, I simply followed.

You paranoid nerds need to think about this too: who is a more attractive webcam target? You? Or Zuckerberg?
I don't fault him for doing it. No offense, but no one wants to hack your cams.
Maybe the ladies...but you GUYS? No.

You're only thinking linear. Webcams have audio as well. Someone can turn them on and listen to conversations. Being the first to go to market with an idea is instrumental. If another company heard plans, it could financially cripple the original company.

I have to admit I was the same way. 3 years ago I was at a prayer breakfast with a group at Cracker Barrel. And one of the guys there had just bought a new MB air and had tape on his webcam. I proceeded to ask about it. And he goes on about what criminal he had locked up were able to do (He was a former Warden at a Max prison with lifers) and those were the ones that were caught. I chuckled and continued doing me making fun of him.

About a year and a half ago I remember looking up to see my camera had come on untouched. Ended up being a program that never closed (though I didnt open it). Likely a bug that didnt happen again after a reset. But still it had me wonder. I am not saying be paranoid but be educated and make your decisions based on that.

But ill admit I have a sticker on my webcam.
