Looking for advice on Bluetooth Steering Wheel Remote

Hi all,

I use my Razr Maxx in the car dock quite often but its a bit of a reach to tap the screen controls especially when listening to music. I'm wondering if anyone has info on a steering wheel mounted remote that I can use to control the music while my Maxx is in the dock. I've found a few for the iPhone but could not find any inf of they would work on an android phone. Looks like Maxell and Parrot have some but before I spend a lot of money to find out it doesn't work, I though I'd solicit some expert opinions and advice here.

Thanks,

David

I think I might have found something that may work. The motorola Bluetooth smart controller. Looks like it acts as a remote control for the Razr, xoom and other android products when docked, however, the documentation on it is less than adequate so I was wondering if anyone has one and is able to control music on the Razr when its NOT docked in the HD dock.

Thanks,

David

OK, after searching and asking the same question on lots of different forums, I stumbled upon a very inexpensive solution from Sony - the Sony Ericcson LiveView bluetooth "watch". Amazon.com: Sony Ericsson LiveView Bluetooth Phone Remote with Micro Display for Xperia PLAY and Other Android-Based Phones - Retail Packaging - Black: Cell Phones & Accessories Only $23.00 on Amazon.

I looked at the Motorola Bluetooth controller but all it basically is is a touchpad and I would have to watch the cursor on the screen. I also looked at several of the Parrot BT phone controllers but they were too expensive.

The LiveView is a small (about the size of a half dollar) bluetooth LCD with touch controls. There are also lots of cool apps that let you customize the device. I ended up installing the music control app and the camera app which lets me control both the music and take pictures remotely - which is a cool feature if I want to snap a picture of some idiot driving in front of me.

Anyway, I paired the LiveView up with my Maxx after installing the apps and plugins, fired up my music player and sure enough, I can control tracks and volume.

I am going to fab a small plastic mounting card so I can attach it to my steering wheel and control my music without having to take my hands off the wheel. I should have that done this weekend and will post some pics.

More to come.....

Hey David,
Any luck with this BT remote?

I bought the car dock & have yet to get it installed in my truck. This might be a cool addition to it.

Hi Bill, yep, its working great. I'm still experimenting with placement but overall it was a really inexpensive and functional way to control my music.

It occasionally loses sync but I found that tapping the track forward button on my music app will get it working again. So far it is working with all my music apps including the new RealPlayer.

I'll try to get some pics posted soon.
