LG Vortex Help

This is my very first smart phone and my first ever droid. I have a fair few questions on it. First of all my battery drains very quickly and the battery usage tells me that phone idle is using most of my battery is there any way to conserve my battery more?

Also I save music and can set it as a ringtone, then the next time someone calls it's the stupid default verizon ringtone and I go to open my music folder and there is nothing there. I found out that the music is on my SD card and so I downloaded thed Astro app and tried to move the music to my phone but it won't let me, and it also wont' let me set the music as a ringtone from my card, any help on this?

I probably have more questions just none I can think of at this moment.

I love this phone and want it to work out for me so much! :)

did the rep u got the phone from install any type of task killer?

and check out Ringdroid on using custom tones as ringtones - free on the market

also, :welcome:

No i don't believe that the rep installed a task killer, he didn't do anything to the phone before I got it. How does ringdroid work? (sorry I'm VERY new) :) ;)

When you say your battery is draining quickly. How fast do you mean? I would say average usage will run you about 10% an hour. Smartphones use alot more battery than dumb phones. You will more than likely never get more than 12-15hrs on a charge if you are using it. If you have any widgets they will drain it faster as well.

As far as ringtones. in the music app are you long pressing on the song? This brings up a menu to set as a ringtone. To make that your default ringtone you still need to go into settings and switch it there.

ringdroid lets you clip a section of a song to make it a ringtone.

Yes I long click the phone and set it as a ringtone then go in and change it in the settings, but the music completely disappears from my phone. I thought that the music was completely deleted, until I downloaded the Astro app which showed me that it was only on my SD card.

That's a strange one. Have you tried a simple reboot to see if the music shows up in the music app again?

Where are you getting the songs from anyways?

The issue could be they are the wrong format. Try using zedge or another free music app and finding songs that way. Might get better results.

LG Vortex - contact as speed dial

I just bought an LG Vortex, and I've been playing around with it the past 2 days. I was adding my contacts, and I actually used the option to add speed dial to my home page for one of them. Is there any way I can delete that off my home page? I've been messing around, and can't seem to find how to do that. If I could get some help, that'd be great! :)

Speed Dial on Home Screen

Hey appy911. Hope I can help, new to my LG Vortex too, but I'm a pretty fast learner. Do you mean that you were in the contacts and added one of your contacts to the home screen as a "direct dial?" If this is the case it shows up on your home screen as a picture (default gray android or contact picture) with either H, M, or W (for home home, work, or mobile) and the green phone icon on the top. With the contacts name at the bottom.

IF this is the case, which I think it is. It works just like anything else on the home screen. All you have to do is long click (hold) on the icon and then drag it to the trash can that will show up on the bottom of the screen.

Hope this helps! dancedroid

Hi Rach, Just got my LG Vortex this past week, and I love it.:) I agree that the battery usage takes a little getting used to. But with a few tweaks you can def help it last a little longer. One huge thing that I think helps a lot is there is a power setting widget that you can add to any home screen. It shows up as a black bat that a 4x1 size widget. You'll have 5 toggle buttons on that from left to right they are: Wi-fi, Bluetooth, GPS/location, Syncing, Brightness. Most of these are buttons that you can find on the notifications menu as well. But I think these are really simple. Anything that you aren't using, make sure it's off. Also the brightness toggle is really useful, when it's "off" your screen is darker which is fine for normal lighting. You can tap that up to 2 more times for 2 "on" settings that are brighter.

I've also been using the JuiceDefender app. There's a free and a paid version though. I only have the free version. but even free it gives you some good options that you can customize. But you can set it to turn off things when your phone is locked. You can also set it to peridically turn these things on at set intervals while locked as well. It helps to stretch your battery more. I'm sure the paid version does even more. For me it estimates that I'm getting x1.60 more battery life than before.

Onto your music question. When you explore your phone through your pc or whatever. I see a folder named "Music" I've been dropping all my music in there and the phone finds it just fine. I actually had a song outside of that folder but it was still showing up. My files are a mix of .mp3 and .aac. If I set any song as a ringtone through either the settings>sound>Phone ringtone option, or just through the music player it works either way for me. I dunno what could be causing it to revert to the plain ringers. Aside from that I highly recommend Ringdroid. It easily allows you to snip a piece of a song (or the whole thing) and make it into a ringtone/notification/alarm whatever. Through using ringdroid and making them into whichever I need. I've found that they will show up under the default options list now.

Hope this helps any. Good luck.

I'm glad I stumbled across this forum. I've been fighting my new Vortex for the last 4 days since I bought the stinkin' thing. First it was constant freezing, turns out it was an SD card issue, got that resolved.

So then I took some of my old .mp3 ringtones I'd made a couple years ago off my computer and texted them to my phone. Works ok, except that I can't use them as a text notification, and I had one I really liked. Anyway, I downloaded ringdroid, it let me cut up the same song and specify "use as notification" so I thought that would solve the problem. Nope.

Now, when you call my phone it goes back to the default ringtone and when you text me I don't even get a ****** alert.

I'm so mad at this phone right now I've thought about throwing it out on to the highway I live on to watch it die a painful death as cars & trucks repeatedly bash the **** out of it.

ANY help would be greatly appreciated. :)
