LG Ally texting help

Just bought this phone, and am unable to sent a messenger text. When I send I get a grey envelope icon with a red circle in the upper right corner. Also what does "CB" mean? Is this a signal issue, (at least three bars), or a settings issue? Thanks for this great forum!

:welcome: to the Droid Forums. Try dialing *228 option 2 and see if that doesn't resolve your issue.

I did the *228 last night but no joy. Now I did it again and I 'm in business! Thanks, Larry
