Lg Ally always searching for signal

Is there anyway to turn the searching for signal thing off? When I am at work my phone is always searching for signal and I don't get signal there. So 2 hours after I have been at work, My phone is down 20% even though I haven't touched it. Any suggestions???

You could put it in airplane mode. I dont know the ally, but it could be in settings/wireless & networks. Hope this helps.
