This AM I got the pop up wanting me to install OTA 6.12.173. I'm newly rooted. I noticed several posts saying you lose the root with this update and should have pre-installed something called Voo Doo rootkeeper. Haven't done that yet.

But here's my real question - that pop up appears every hour! I've set up my 3 week old razr perfectly the way I want it. so I'm not sure I want to install this OTA now. Isn't there a way to have it stop popping up that Install Update message every hour? What about those of us who do not want to install it?

Also, is this that Ice Cream Sandwich that I've seen hyped?

Thanks from this novice!

It is not ICS. It Is gingerbread 2.3.6. Now it looks like we won't see ICS for a while. Q3 at earliest prob. There is no reason not to take the upgrade though. Radio is much improved. Which means you will get a lot stronger 4g and wifi signals in areas where you now get a weak signal. Also some other minor improvements. Install rootkeeper from market, in rootkeeper protect root, temp unroot and then install update. Once updated open rootkeeper again and restore root. It is really easy and all your settings on your phone will still be intact.

thanks - followed your instructions and everything seems to be working ok - not noticing much difference but will look elsewhere for the list of changes in the new update.

Hi,

Let me begin by saying, I am a bit new to this rooting stuff. I used the one click easy root and everything has been working fine for months, until I did the OTA update last night.

I was rooted without the rootkeeper, and last night did the OTA update. The phone went into a reboot cycle and that's all it would keep doing. I was able to finally get the phone past boot and reloaded by doing the RSD Lite 4.9. But once I got it booted I (gasp) did the OTA update. Now I can't get root back. It starts the process, but gets to the 3rd step and comes back with a bunch of 'access denied' lines before finishing. But it's not rooted. I tried Titanium BU to confirm and no-go.

I read this thread and learned about rootkeepr, but too late. I did download it to the phone.

So just wondering if there are any suggestions on another root or should I just wait to see if something comes out?

Thank You

This utility (http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-razr-hacks/198379-updated-droid-razr-utility-windows.html) will give you back root. For your purposes you can download the version that "Option 1 will not work" on. See below. You will also need the Morotola drivers (also below).

Motorola Drivers (If its not working install this.)
