I'm worried we won't have supper tonight. I'm confused. The slow cooker was on the counter and there was a roast clearly ready to go in the fridge in the ceramic dish thing that goes in the slow cooker.

Don't you want that thing in there all day, or have I been overdoing it when I make one? I texted the lady to see if I should put it in there this morning, but she was already at work and hasn't responded.

I use my crockpot often. Usually these types of slow cookers have 3 settings: low, high and warm.
It depends on the size of your roast and what time you actually turn it on, but typically you'll want to cook it on low if it's going to be all day. And even then, it will be done by 4-5 easily. If you start it around noon, then cook it on high and it should be done by 5-6. Again, it depends on the size of your roast.
They can get dry and overcooked if cooked too long, depending on the cut of meat used. Good luck!
