Lag between me talking and person on other line hearing me

So for as long as I can remember there has been a huge (by huge I mean it's probably about 1 second) delay from when I say something and when the person on the other line hears me. It gets pretty old when I start talking and the other person can't hear it so they start talking then I stop then they stop & it gets all confusing. Any ideas how to fix this?

Google Voice. I never even thought about that being the problem but is that probably why?

i have noticed that google voice has a delay but this may be due to the fact that they must push the voip through so many servers. you could try using the normal phone and see if there is still a difference.
