K-9 inbox colors

I'm using K-9 email on my unrooted Motorola Droid. Documentation on settings is a little sparse - why do some emails appear as shaded (in this instance, light purple) while others don't? They're all in the same folder, and it's not connected to being read vs. unread (which is shown in bold/unbold). What is this color setting and how can I change/remove it?

Did you ever figure this out? i was wondering the same thing and i can't seem to find an answer. there doesn't seem to be any reason which ones are shaded.

From another thread, its apparently related to which ones are fully downloaded or not.
