Congrats.

There are some free Hero type clocks you can get, which is nice.

Personally, I'd get these things

GDE (Application Dock is nice below a large hero clock)
Wallswitch
Google Goggles
Locale
Shazam
Beautiful Widgets (Its nice having weather, calendar and alarm clock in 1 bar)
Google Sky Map
Iheart Radio (if you care for this type of thing)
Nimbuzz (instant messenger)
SMS Popup and Handcent SMS
Spare Parts
Autolock
Battery Widget
Pandora
ScreenModeWidget
Ringer Toggle Widget

Pretty much, that list gives me all the functionality I need for the phone. Don't be daunted, its doesn't take long to download these apps. You can customize the phone to pretty much do what you want, stay on and turn on bluetooth when its plugged in, turn off the screen after 30 seconds when not plugged in, goto silent when at work, use the volume rocker/camera button to turn on the screen, etc etc. There are a ton of options, play with it.

Good luck.

The droid is the most amazing phone i'v ever gotten lol. For the clock widget theres a bunch in the market most might debate between Beautiful Widget and weather widget i like beautiful more because it looks better to me and comes with wifi, vibrate, silent, Gps, etc swtiches, there should be posts on it.
I use ummmm Advance Task Manager alot, hancent, missed call for the led notification light (Could change its color which is cool so you know what you missed), shopsavy, dolphin browser if you want multitouch and tabs (i like the original browser), Google sky (When you see this in action you'll be like WOW), Google Goggles and much more you'll find from other members.
You could also check out home Replacements like Home ++ which is free and more smooth than the stock Android you get.

I suggest Screebl. It will keep your phone from timing out on you when you are holding it and looking at it. Lay it flat and it times out like normal. It's adjustable too, kind of like a level for your phone.
