well - in my case, the problem is that I am finding multiple - sometimes 5 - repeat numbers for contacts that I entered using my phone.
when I go to GMail however the contacts show up normally with only one copy of the number.

when I check the contact on my phone I find also only one number - but underneath the field in small text it says "google number google number goo..." with it running off the edge of the box...

what gives?
