Is rooting or cracked screen causing touch screen to not work right?

I repaired my cracked screen and I guess I didn't get it down in there good enough. I tried to push it back down and it cracked a little again. Now, I can't do things at the top of my screen. If I want to make a call and the person is at the top of the call log, I can't click on their name.
Is this being caused by the screen issues or the rooting?

Also, if I decline the firmware update will that cause me problems? I don't want to lose my rooted phone.
