Is CM7 on Gingerbread kernel now?

I've been hearing stuff about CM7 D2 being on 2.3.5 now and I was wondering if this means that I don't have to SBF back to froyo if I'm on gingerbread (Liberty .9 specifically)

So does the fact that its on the froyo kernel limit functionality at all? Or is it virtually the same a gingerbread?
