Is a data plan needed to go online on a G2?

I gave my G2 phone away to my gf as a gift,she has a sim card from t-mobile but it doesn't have any data plan in it. So what I'm wondering is if she can go online with a wifi connection? I called tmobile and they said she will be able to go online but i want to know what you guys think. Thanks

As long as there's data going to the phone it should be usable.

Yeah that's what I think as well. She should be able to use wifi with no problems.

i still use my old LG Ally on wifi sometimes (mainly as a testing device before i do anything to my X). it hasnt had a plan or a number tied to it in months. works perfect!
