I have rooted my droid x with z4root and I would now like to install Liberty as my rom. On the liberty thread it says to do this to install:
Install:
make sure you have root and clockworks recovery installed
-boot into recovery via clockworks bootstrap
-select "wipe data/factory reset"
-select "Yes -- delete all data"
-go back "powerbutton"
-select "install zip from sdcard"
-select "choose zip from sdcard"
-find and select LibertyX/2-X.X.zip
-reboot

Is there anything else that I should do before I follow these steps. How would I backup my apps and contacts and all of these things? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The only thing I am really worried about is if I will lose my contacts or not.

As long as your contacts are with your gmail acount your good. The first thing you have to do when your done flashing the rom is it will ask for your gmail and it will take a few minutes. All your contacts will be there

Back up your existing rom and also use titanium to backup all apps and data.
