As phone screen resolutions get better and better you would expect apps to update their display resolutions right along with them. We now have 2k screens and you would think the first app that would update to high resolution would be instagram which is the go to image sharing social media app. Until now the app has displayed images no matter what size of screen in 640x640. On Android these pictures have been compressed making the images look absolutely awful. Starting today the app will display images in 1080x1080 and the compression will be fixed on Android so your images will looks much sharper going forward. The update is taking place on the backend so you won't have to actually update your app.
