Initial Reports about Motorla Xoom vs iPasd 2 Sales Not Great For Motorola

It's not like it's all doom and gloom. But apparently at least from this group of bloggers, sales of Motorola Xoom are taking a beating from the iPad2.

100,000 units sold for the Xoom isn't bad, unless you look at what the iPad2 has sold. With 50 more Android Tablets coming out it will be interesting to see how it changes, or doesn't change the Market.

Lower the price, then see how much it sells.

No love loss from me towards Moto. Don't like the direction they are heading. Tried out the Xoom the other day at Verizon when I got my TBolt, and its an awesome device. Feels very sturdy and tough, but its impossible to justify paying that price for it.

How can anybody be surprised. The competition is only going to get tougher too. I think they screwed the pooch on pricing not to mention no working SD slot and stuff like a barometer (really?) that jacked up the price.

Also no surprise here. But I'm looking forward to the $400 Asus Transformer. It won't get the marketing/attention like the ipad or xoom, but I think it will be the best bang for your buck.

Saw that coming. It is a nice tablet, but that price tag really kills it for many people...me included. And as stated above, the Asus tablet that's on the horizon really looks promising.

Oh...and to add to my above post...

I don't know if this is isolated or what, but when I went to check out the Xoom at my local Best Buy, it wasn't displayed in a very prominent spot. It was just kind of stuck on a shelf with the netbooks, and it was the only tablet in that spot. The other tablets were over in the mobile area, and the iPads were displayed at the Apple kiosk and in the main aisles. So the merchandising displaying wasn't all that great either, at least in this instance.

I don't want anything to do with tablets (I mean why? Laptop is the same form factor just a little heavier with a keyboard and adjustable screen, and I already have one. Touch screen is nice however...) but if I were interested, I'd be paying attention to the Transformer as well because at least it can dock with a keyboard, which is a must for me. At $400 it nearly even piques my interest and I'm not even in the market right now. :)

People buy the iPad because of the name. Its a social status symbol. I know MANY MANY people that have an iPad and regret buying it. they have no real use for it except for playing a game or two once in a while and maybe facebook. But they have their phone, be it iPhone or not and just don't have a use for it.

I think that this is due to 2 reasons....1st being price....$800 is a bit steep when you don't have the same reputation as Apple....which brings me to 2nd reason....Apple has a reputation and a lot of people buy just for that. Give it time and Google will come around just like they did in the phone market.

It looks like I may finally join the Dark Side and buy an iPad 2. It will be my first Apple product. I am keeping my trusty Droid, though. I am mainly getting the iPad 2 for work-related stuff (it is hard to navigate an RDP window on the small screen of a phone) and the Xoom is just cost-prohibitive.

I'll buy their used iPad at a discount! I need one for work, but my employer is not providing them for us.

Seriously check out the Asus Transformer we're talking about, it's solid.

Yeah, that's what I want, the Asus Transformer. It's not too expensive and it has the dock. It has plenty of ports and everything. Way better than any of these other tablets if you ask me.
