Increasing wifi range. Router to Smartphone to Laptop.

Hi my name is michael and i have the Samsung Galaxy 551. I was wondering if it is possible to transfer my wireless internet connection from my router to my smartphone to my laptop upstairs to increase wifi signal strength on my laptop. If possible how do I do this? I know I can create a portable wifi hotspot but it appears this is only for data connections? A step by step guide to doing this would be much appreciated. Thank you.

I may be missing something. Are you trying to extend the range of the WiFi router or something else?

yes im trying to send the internet connection from my router to my smartphone to my laptop to extend the range of the router
