I called in to VZW to go over some account issue with upgrading from my Droid X to the Rezound, due to some online website issues.

Partially through the conversation, the girl says that they're having a special promotion and my account was eligible.

If I were to upgrade to a 4G device, I would receive an additional $100 off, in addition to my $30 loyalty discount.

So I was able to pick up a new HTC Rezound for $169!

It couldn't hurt to call and see if you may be able to get the same deal.

I want to know too, and if it works instore. I asked at a non corport store and he didn't know what I was talking about, best he could do was wave my $20 early upgrade fee.

The woman I spoke to said that you HAVE to go to a VZW store or do it over the phone. A mall kiosk or general store for wireless won't be able to see if you are eligible.

I found it hard to believe as well, which is why kept asking her, that if I went into the VZW store, was she absolutely positive that they would see EXACTLY what she saw and she said that there was no reason they wouldn't be able to see it.
I got the phone for $169 so I know it's real.
Has anyone tried just calling in to VZW?

No, but I'm going to call and check in a few days and/or go to VZW store. I need a new phone because my D1 died, my D2 has started randomly shutting down and I have been due for an upgrade for a few months. I was planning to wait until the price dropped but now I may not be able to and I would like to get the phone I want at a price I can afford. Thanks for the info though!

Ok, well I wish you luck with it.

The woman I spoke to said she wasn't aware of how long the promotion would be going on, as I am tight for cash as well, but I just billed it to my account, so now I have until the middle of January to pay it off. I would call just to see if you can get it and just tell her that since your other phone is dying, you would prefer to go to a store so you don't have to wait for it. That's what I did.

Mention that you know someone (me) from the Chicago area that was able to get the deal.

I really hope someone else can take advantage of this.

Glad to see this post. I was in a corporate store yesterday and was told the same thing.

If they can do it for some customers, they should do it for all. It is not my faught I'm not in a 4G area. Why does my location make me less of a customer? Use to be they were more then happy to get you to sign for another 2 years, now they took away new every two, and give you nothing. I went in planing on getting a new phone, with the the deal watch somebody in front of me get it. I left with my OG.
