If you could only have/recommend 5 APPS ?

My most used Apps, in no particular order. A few date back to up to 14 months ago when I first bought a G1, but all work fine on the Droid:

Home++ ( I used to use Open Home, but FC & lagged too much - this one is great)
Weather Widgets - Donate
Pure Calendar Widget
Pkt Auctions ebay
Quick Settings - toggle all settings - free, covers them all, works great.
Battery Widget - no one seems to have one for droid in increments finer than 10% - this one works fine
BuzzOff - set to silent or vibrate for set length of time, then revert back to normal setting -- a must have if you ever forget to take back off silent.
FastBright - touch to go to full screen brightness, touch again to go back to your normal setting. I use this whenever I will be going outside for awhile.
Movies
Upvise Personal - use to store personal data other than than I keep in Contacts - autosyncs to web
Backgrounds
Where
Finance (Google) - live quotes & link to your Google Finance acct
YP.com
MyBackup Pro
CalCOOLator - much better calculator than OEM
Free Ticker Calculator - saves your calcs on a ticker for easy viewing
iHeartRadio - Listen to any Clear Channel station, any format, any city

Locale: configures your phone based upon conditions you set - turn your phone to vibrate when you are at work (uses GPS or you can set times); send a tweet when you get home, dim your screen when battery gets low, etc.

Mobile Defense: just available - locate your phone, remotely lock/wipe it, etc. WaveSecure is another great app for similar purpose, also Where's My Droid works just OK.

chompSMS: I am a sucker for having my texts in the bubbles and conversationally laid out. works now with picture messages, etc.

TalkToMe keyboard: allows you to speak to fill in any text box - uses Google Speak - very nice. Not to be confused with Talk To Me, a cool language translator that allows you to speak, and it translates and talks back to you.

The multitouch core app replaements: Dolphin Browser, B&B Gallery, PicSay, etc - adds multitouch without rooting your phone

Runner Ups:

i Music Tao: download mp3's (illegal) or just stream them (legal)

iheartradio: listen to local stations to keep up with events, sports, etc. or listen to....

Pandora/Slacker : both let you listen to stations, learns your listeninghabits, skip songs, etc.

Ringdroid: slice up your mp3's into ringtones, all from your phone

Twidroid / Twidroid pro: tweet all you want

Tunewiki: play your music, and it will show scrolling lyrics

Games: SNesoid (play Super nintendo roms), Cribbage Pro, Wave Blazer (like Hydro Thunder boat racing - uses accelerometer), Yz+ (Yahtzee knockoff)

Advanced Task Killer: awesome when apps wont load, just not as sexy as other apps. Probably use this as much as anything else!

SpeedTest: tests your connection speed and keeps a log.

I would have to say my top 5 that I use are...

1) Pandora
2) SportsTap
3) Meebo
4) Shazam
5) Nesoid

I, just today, discovered the magic of Pandora and it's definitely my new favorite app.

Awesome, I've donwloaded quite a few new apps due to this thread. Here's some of my fav's in no order

Top 5:
Gmail - Everyone has it, but I probably use this most. I'm always on my e-mail, this makes it easy.

WorkItOut - I've tried all of the workout apps, and this is by far my favorite. Extremely easy to type in how many reps and what weight you did as well as what exercise.

Handcent - Best messaging app out there, I couldn't believe how bad the messaging app that came with the Droid was, Handcent was the first thing I downloaded.

Buddy Mob - Easy way to group all of your different chats like Google Chat, MSN, Yahoo, etc. into one.

Advanced Task Manager - Easy way to manage what's running, and apps installed.

Honorable Mentions:

Myspace - Easy way to check it if need be.

Pandora - Great for finding new music.

Lock Pattern - When I first saw my friend's Droid phone, I thought this was the coolest thing ever haha. Easy way to lock your phone, and not have it turn on, on accident.

Astro File Manager - Makes finding files on your SD card amazingly easy.

Calendar - Everyone's got it, but it helps me keep track of what I need to do with much ease.

Shazam - Easy way to find songs you dont know

Photobucket - Easy Image Uploading

Qik - Easy Video Streaming

Moto Torch - LIGHT!

Stopwatch - Never know when you need to time something.......

I would have locale on my list, but the location worked terribly. I tried it quite a few times and it wouldn't work, not sure what the problem is.

iTag-edit song names and info
pandahome- theme platform

taskiller--kills task one at a time or all at once..

Mine are...

My choices would be:

- ES File Explorer : great file manager, ftp, LAN access and task killer
- Battery Widget : shows remaining battery and also allows you to turn on / off the wifi, bluetooth, display, and GPS in a single icon.
- Meridian Media Player: player for video and audio. can browse files .
- Barcode scanner
- Hi AIM: AOL IM client

I'd also say Dolphin Browser is worth the install. Love the gestures as they improve usability.

So, I'll follow suit with others and not limit myself to just 5 apps. There are so many more than 5 worth mentioning, with tons to come! Below are my apps that I am very impressed and happy with. (I have a Motorola DROID with Verizon btw)

Handcent SMS
- Great replacement to the text messaging app that came built in.
Pandora - Streaming radio that does an EXCELLENT job of finding music that I love.
Shazam - Music tagging. You let the phone listen briefly, and it tells you what song you're listening to.
Mobile Banking - Mobile management of multiple bank accounts, by actually logging in to your bank and checking balances and cleared transactions.
iMusic - Search for a song. When it finds it, you can either stream it over your data connection, or download it for free (no way it can possibly be legal to download free mp3s...but anyways...that's what it does.)
Dolphin Browser - A great alternative to the built in browser. While both are fast, this one allows tabs, pinch to zoom, and skins.
Astro - File manager to find, move, rename, etc.
Better Keyboard - I don't find it very different when it comes to size or spacing, but I do find it more responsive to quick typing, I like the skins, and the tactile feedback (the way it vibrates when you press a button) make it easier to type long messages, quickly, than the original keyboard.
Home++ - An alternative to the original Home screen that allows for more home screens, a nifty "screen switcher" feature, and a great scrollable bar at the bottom to quickly access important phone functions.
Ringdroid - Make your own ring tones! Fun to use!
Barcode Scanner / Shop Savvy - Scan a bar code and search the web for more info, specs, price comparisons, etc. Very useful!
Facebook - Self explanatory. It's a mobile client for those that use facebook. The interface has a good looking UI, however, I do wish that it had a more intuitive integration when you get a comment on you're post, or a message...the way that my blackberry did. If someone commented on my status, I used to be able to open their comment in the app on the phone, and then immediately just type back. On the DROID I have to load the link via the web browser and manually navigate to the post in order to reply. The great thing about this open source operating system is that things can easily, quickly, and affordably be upgraded and changed to meet the needs of users.
MotoTorch - Sounds cooler than it is. Turns on the phones LED to act like a flashlight/spotlight (also does strobe patterns and morse code). I find that I never use this app though, while it is still worth mentioning because some people would use it more than I do I suppose.
Task List - Manage a business and personal task list. I use it for groceries and such.
Beautiful Widget - Good home screen integration for clock/weather with quick access to the calendar. Looks very nice as well on the home screen and the weather animations are awesome!

Games

Trap!
- Section off 75% of the screen without any of the moving balls hitting your line before it reaches both walls. Addicting!
Frozen Bubble - Shoot the colored balls to make a string of 3 or more until you clear the screen.
Word Search - Self explanatory.
SuperYatzy - A spin off version of yhatzee.
Poke A Mole - Feel like a kid again!
Pair Up - A good twist to the classic game memory.
Jewels - A spin off of the game bejeweled.
Solitaire - The classic card game.
Backgammon - Classic board game.

This isn't all of my apps, just the ones I felt deserving mentioned. I LOVE MY DROID!

This thread was very helpful for me, so I figured I'd contribute with a few descriptions to go along!

EDIT: Side note. Most of the above apps are free. I believe I only paid for 2 or 3 of them, and they were no more than $3 each for the ones that I did purchase.

I think it's time to post again, since it's been a while and I've changed about everything:

Pandora
Pinball
ProZoom Camera
Where
(I know it's more the 5 but I couldn't help myself)

I see 2 Pro Zoom Cameras - which one do you prefer? I would love to improve the camera a little. I don't use it often, but it can be useful...

At the moment, the ones I would have to recommend to everybody would be:

Handcent - Instant messenger. It allows more customization (as far as I can tell) than the standard messenger, and can automatically split text messages if you go over 160 characters.

Twidroid - Twitter for your Droid. I have tinkered with a few others, but this is the best.

ShopSavvy - Shopping assistant. You can scan barcodes of products and the program will tell you how much it costs, where you can find it, and where it is cheaper (both locally and online).

Pandora - Custom radio. You plug in your favorite artist, and it creates a playlist of songs and artists based on what you put in. You can also add additional artists for more variety.

StreamFurious - Web radio streaming. If you have a web radio show you like to listen to, you can find it here (or on the apparently associated shoutcast.com, which will then play it through streamfurious).
