if i were to by an incredible..

i really want to buy an htc incredible, i currently have the motorola droid and im starting to get bored of it.

lets say i were to buy it used off of craigslist, or ebay, etc... and then activate it, would this be violating any of my terms with verizon's contract? like if they find out i have an incredible - not a droid anymore before my contract is over? im still keeping my plan and everything.

As long as you pay off the rest of the contract Verizon does not care what phone it is attached to. They will gladly switch service from one to the other.

The contract is for the Verizon Service, not the phone.
You can have any phone and change as many times as you want within your contract.
