why is every icon image on my droid showing up in the gallery?

The gallery finds all images on your SD and shows them. Put a file with the name ".nomedia" and it will not scan that particular folder...

ok, mounted phones to pc and found icons that are showing up in folder /sdcard/dcim/.thumbnails. I copied .nomedia file from another folder to this one. it didnt do anything. also tried powering phone off then on.
