Incorrect. For many apps, it only removes them from the recent apps list. It does not kill them. It's not a task manager, just a recent apps list. Google has never said that it kills them, and several reviews of ICS have also stated that many apps still run after removing them from the recent apps list. Installing a task manager, just for testing purposes, will show this to be the case.
Dang, I could swear I heard screams when I swiped mine, I assumed they were screams of Death. Perhaps it's just like a little virtual cliff they get thrown off.

thank you for your response. I checked on that before I came to the forum. It said, Check for updates is not available at this time try again later. any other suggestions?
One was called Zillow?? Then one just said market?? I removed them. I dont know whats going on?? I never downloaded them. They were on my homescreen today so this is very wierd then another said Verizon market....i cant remember the rest i removed them.
It is caused by an app you installed and must likely a recently installed app. It is advertising and a how app developers support their free apps. You can uninstall any apps you installed just prior to when this started until you find the culprit. You can also install Addons Detector or Airpush Detector from the play store and it should give you a list of the apps that push ads to your phone.
