I need some advice on a smart device without Cellular for my son

I'd like to get my son something like an iPod Touch so that he can get apps and all that, just not use it as a phone. We are an android family, so I'd rather go with an android device. What would everyone suggest? I'd like to be at about $150 or below.


One of the cheap tablets? (Pendigital)
Maybe get an OG Droid (or another) and just set it up for wifi only?
Kindle? I know it's not android, but I saw that there is an app store for kindle. Also, he likes to read, so I thought the Kindle would be good for buying ebooks for him to read in the car and stuff as well.


What do you guys think? What would you buy for a 9 year old?

I use my dx as basically just that.... games wifi only and its in airplane mode... when I just have it in airplane mode it can last days.... I got it on Craigslist not long ago for 150... it was practically new

if you never plan on activating it you can get one with a bad esn for basically nothing

I would go with the Amazon kindle fire. Its a little put of your price range at 200, but probably worth the extra 50.
