I can only get my Droid X to play the ringer that speaks the caller's name

You know.... "Call from Dad, Call from Dad, Call from Dad"

I've tried every different way to change my ringtone to the one I want and even when that ringtone is set as my ringer, I still can't get it to play my ringer when people call.

Has anyone had the same problem? I REALLLLY don't want to factory restart since I just got a 32gb micro sd and spent a couple hours filling it with music, so I'm open to any suggestions that don't involve doing that.

Any responses would be appreciated.

Change caller id readout setting.

You have caller id set to repeat. I have droid 2, but I'm sure its the same setting. Go to Settings, Call Setting, scroll down to caller id readout and you have the option to pick ringtone only, caller id then ring tone, or caller id repeat. You have it set on caller id repeat, so if you don't want that, that's where you can change it.

I just wanted to add, if you do a factory reset, it doesn't erase what you have on your sd card. It won't erase your music or pictures, just reset the phone. You will only lose apps and phone calls made and text messages. Not the stuff on the card. You actually can backup your apps and wallpaper with your google account, so that if you do a factory reset, they will come back. However, you definitely lose texts. The programs they have to back messages up, aren't great.

Wow, that was it!!!!!!! I have been struggling with this for a month! I would have never thought of doing that, either. Thanks a lot!

Good tip on the backup, too. I'm doing that now.
