HTC Thunderbolt Release Date

I can't believe some of you still think this phone is showing up at Best Buy on Monday. When your pre-order expires on the 16th, you'll have traded in $50 for a gift card.

Here's my prediction: March.

You can call me Nostradamus on February 28 when the phone still hasn't been released.

My prediction still stands, stronger than ever......

How is VZW jerking ANYONE around? They have not announced a release date on the device. Ever. It's not on their website, it's not advertised in their stores, and if you call them wanting one they tell you it's not available yet. How exactly is this jerking you around? Because you want it now now now and they are not selling it yet???

Best Buy stores have tweeted all sorts of junk tweets trying to bring people in, but Best Buy is not owned by VZW, they are just a reseller (and a rather sucky one at that).

Here's my problem with VZW - why not just tell us what's up? I know they're all getting giddy over the iPhone, so why not throw us a bone. If it's delayed, tell us. If they have some dates but they're tentative, tell us. At least give us a range or tell us it will be here by March. Instead we get cryptic tweets like "It'll be here sooner than you think." Thanks VZW, you're my hero.

If the phone is delayed because they want to give it full functionality, like hotspot and Skype, tell us. We get it. You want it to be right. But with enough "leaks" about the 14th, and then Best Buy getting in on the mix, it's time to set the record straight Verizon.

JUST TELL US what is going on. It's not that hard.

I cannot get a straight date from my AT&T Account Manager on the Atrix and we have a $500,000 Wireless account with them. It's not just Verizon. They will wait until any issues are fixed, they will wait until they have enough in store to cover expected demand, they (meaning all carriers) know you're not going elsewhere over a delay of a week, especially when they haven't even told you when to expect it.

All Verizon has said on the TB release date is Q1 2011. We are not even half way through Q1.

As to why it's not being released yet, what would you have them tell you ????

1 in 3 phones explodes and causes massive facial burns when used but a fix is coming?

A majority of the child labor making the device in China all had dysentery and were out of the factory for a week?

They cannot get hotspot to work?

There is nothing VZW can tell you which will actually make you "feel better" about the delay so they don't say anything at all. Everyone is already expecting the world's most perfect device ever. Words that they are working on a problem no matter how big or small can only serve to diminish sales. No business does that.

By the way, at&t officially announced March 6 as the Atrix release date a long time ago, and all indications point it being available next week for those who pre-ordered.... like me.

The TB delay is all about the iPhone - Vz will milk that as long as possible because the truth is, you Droiders are now a secondary priority. Yeah, I'm stuck on a lousy network, but LTE wouldn't be near me anytime soon anyway. AT&T just kept a customer for at least another 2 years and that's based on both being up front with its customers on the Atrix release date, pricing it reasonably at $199 and finally giving Android a seriously look now that they have some serious iPhone competition.

This delay clearly has nothing to do with exploding phones and Chinese labor - the phones are out there, available and ready to deploy. Verizon is dangling it in front of your faces because people more likely to switch from another provider will do it for the iPhone, not the TB, and they don't want to market two big ticket phones at the same time.

You can be a Verizon apologist all you want, at&t simply won my business for being up front about it's latest Android device. Good luck with Verizon...

That's ridiculous. AT&T isn't being "up front", they're being desperate.

Good luck with tiered data.

I just want the stupid thing to launch because I can't look away from this train wreck of a thread.

I think a lot of it has to do with VZW not launching a good phone since the DX in August. Sure, the Pro was a nice phone but more of a niche offering. No wonder people are chomping at the bit for this thing.

I paid $99 for the phone as a premier customer, get to keep my unlimited data plan and didn't have to pay for tethering.

There's a lot of misinformation going around about the Atrix since all the reviews are focusing on the overpriced laptop dock gimmick. But it is a gimmick, it is overpriced, and I'm just here for the phone. With poor Verizon network support where I live, the choice is easy - I know I'll have the Atrix by a certain date, I paid less for it than I would for the TB, and I have unlimited data and wasn't forced to buy tethering.

I bet if you had Verizon service in your area your whole viewpoint would change ;)

Yeah, not sure what his point is.

3400+ posts about a phones release date.. thats nuts. With that said... I can clearly see this is going to be a popular phone and I may just want to get it so as to keep doing what I do.... My question is.. because I'm in no way about to read all 86 pages... how much is the phone going to cost me if I buy it at retail?
