HTC Thunderbolt Release Date

Yeah, I like the theory the Iphone delay pushed back the Thunderbolt, makes sense to me. Anybody know about any other official release announcements by verizon in the past, and how long it took the device to hit the streets after the announcement??

It's also still strange that HTC took down the Skype and hotspot info from the T-bolt page on their site two days ago, then they say the phone is shipping this week... I'm thinking maybe it was a hardware issue and HTC is to blame for holding up the shipping... just a bunch of speculation by a guy that troubleshoots software for a living :)

Verizon's site that went up today (or late last night) still says "hotspot for up to 8 devices". You can see that if you hover over the clouds and move around it fades in from behind the banner.

earlier in the thread someone mentioned a couple of phones coming out 8 or 9 days after the announcement. If they announce it today, tomorrow, or Thursday it could easily be the 24th.

I've been reading this thread since day one and have done simply that, read it. I have an EnV Touch and have had it since launch day forever back when. I am due for my upgrade Thursday and have been going nuts since the New Year as to what I should use (waste) it on. I remember last Spring when I had decided to purchase a new Apple laptop. My IBook was seven years old and it was time. I bought a Mac Book Pro only to find out (because Apple apparently doesn't like to advertise product refreshment) that two weeks after my purchase for the same $$ I could have had more battery, harddrive and processor (not to mention a free ipod touch) Sure I was a bit salty as it was just outside the 14 day return window, but, the computer I purchased was still amazing and a significant upgrade over what I had. From reading these posts in this thread most of us have "outdated" equipment on the cell phone front. No matter what you choose to purchase, two weeks later something bigger, better and flashier will come out. That's the market economy, mobile devices and services is (are) the fastest growing market. We're so obsessed with having the 'new' and it sure is a shame. So consumed by the want and often times forgetting what you have. It would be super if we could all relax a little and enjoy this. The best part of Christmas when you were a little kid wasn't that morning, but 3-5am lying awake in bed listening for Santa and being excited to find out just what was on the way. Enjoy the anticipation, because the reality (not Samsung) will probably not live up to it :-/

Maybe this just points more to it being released without those features, and then a patch coming out. Very weird that HTC stops advertising these features but Verizon keeps it going.

It's possible. It's also possible Verizon knew they weren't ready/allowed to launch and didn't want space taken up in their warehouses or stores, so in turn they wouldn't let HTC ship them. I used to work in consumer goods, and trust me that sort of stuff happens if your customer isn't ready to start selling your product yet.

I agree that the 14th was probably the original date scheduled (BB leaked internal document, CNN ad). Good point, if the iPhone got pushed back for whatever reason, the TB unfortunately got affected by that too. I'm sure HTC and VZW wanted to push it out by now if they could, but Apple's legal machine was not having any of that ("No way, Jose, not until we get our 2 weeks"). Also, the software issues that occurred in final testing (blackmanx and others referred to the hand-off issue, mobile hotspot, and Skype being possibilities) didn't help. That's probably why they are just shipping this week instead of earlier (because they only recently got the final updates on the devices as a result of the software corrections). It is curious how HTC changed their page for the TB, removing references that were on there before though.

I was hoping for an announcement today too, but if it doesn't come this week, don't lose hope yet. It doesn't mean anything, except that Apple is calling VZW's shots now. Remember, VZW doesn't make squat off of devices, just the service contracts. They don't care if people buy a Moto, Apple, HTC, LG, Sammy, whatever. They still get paid every month for the contract.

They don't seem to be on the same page about a lot of things.

Very true, personally though part of the anticipation is driven by speculating about it. Now that 2-14 is passed and we have a better idea of when it will be available it's much easier to step away and just enjoy the rest of the ride.

I'm enjoying every second of speculating, and being anxious over a cell phone. And, yup, I know better technology will come out the day after. It's just turning into a sort of hobby for me. I think when the actual announcement comes we'll have no more research to do, or leaks to look forward to. For me it will be bittersweet. Then, it will turn into counting down the minutes til release, then I'll have it. After a few weeks of playing with it continuously, I'll find something else to obsess over, bout time for a new car..... :)

HDMI port & slightly higer resolution in the X makes the TBolt a step down? Let me intoduce you to my friend, his name is reality. :P

How am I wrong?
Usually if you have LESS features, it is a step down...

And don't say "phones on the horizon are always better" either. The Atrix is releasing what March 4th? That's not "on the horizon", for all we know it could come out BEFORE the TB.

"Usually if you have LESS features, it is a step down..." If that's your argument you would have to weight every single feature individually and see which phone scores better. Most people would not put the X and TBolt side by side and think the TBolt is a downgrade by any means.

The Atrix is interesting but if everything I'll read about it is true I don't really see how it's a lot better. The dock feature is kinda poorly implemented IMO (not to mention expensive). If the rumor that 512mb of the ram is only for the dock then it actually has less ram than the TBolt.

Right now dual-core means nothing but bragging rights. As multi-threaded games start coming out and Honeycomb start popping up on phones (how long till we see HC on the Atrix/Bionic? Bet it won't till till end of the year at best) that could change, but for right now it's not really gaining you much (if anything).

The higher resolution screen in the Atrix/Bionic is actually nice, but not nice enough to sway me away for an aluminum unibody HTC.

I've heard the new version of Blur is much improved, but I've used Sense for years and I like it.

You say the TBolt doesn't stack up, I say it does. You're welcome to your opinion, but I'm also welcome to mine. I hope whatever you upgrade to is all that and a bowl of grits, but I'm sure I'll be more than happy with the TBolt.

Well I can agree with that last part.
I have just had bad experiences with HTC, from the G1 to the Incredible, so maybe that gives me a bias against them. I'm happy with my iP4, and the TB offers me personally nothing that my D1/iP4 combo cannot do. Especially since I won't even have 4g here in Fayettenam until later this year. (Droid C3po or iPhone 5 LTE for me most likely)
