HTC Thunderbolt Release Date

We also need to consider something else. Verizon may be delaying the TB to add a few extra incentives to buy it over the dual core Atrix or the supposedly cheaper Inspire. They could possibly be devoping a firmware which will allow the processor to run beyond 1ghz (1.2-1.4 mabye) which its Snapdragon chip is very capable of. Most people would be attracted to a higher clock speed and wouldnt even understand what a dual core is. Even tech people will appreciate clock speed more than a dual core, untill Android really takes advantage of a second core, that is.
*Or mabye they are buying thousands of Seidio 1800 MaH batteries to include with the TB, although that is highly unlikely.haha

Why would Verizon be scared of losing customers to AT&T? I bet very few people are jumping to AT&T just for the Atrix. The people who would potentially do this are YOU - the people waiting (im)patiently for the Thunderbolt.

Lol. If this thread gets closed by you (once again) creating conflict in the thread I will die laughing. Sure says something...

Anyway... I'm getting the Thunderbolt whenever it comes out as I don't care for Moto Blur. Need to get rid of this outdated LG Chocolate "Touch".

Verizon isn't really "delaying" anything though. I wish people would understand that... Verizon never announced an official release date so they can't delay it. Best Buy is the one giving false hope. Verizon only promised the Thunderbolt would be released in Q1 and as far as I can tell... it's still Q1.

I asked Nick on BB mobile chat how they can take pre-orders for a phone that doesn't have a release date and he closed the chat. :D
try the chat again the person i talked to said the 24 was a def not sure if it matters when u put ur zip in but put 20784 maybe ull get a diff rep or sumn :)

so you're more credible than bmx or Miami because you hold what position that allows you access to information we don't have?

I'm not more credible, I'm just using common sense.

Didn't Miami say this phone would be released February 14 at the beginning of the month? Yes.

No one know when this phone will be released - Verizon is hiding their cards on this one and despite what evidence there may be, it's not definite. The phone is out there - yes, definitely, and it's ready to release. But Verizon isn't releasing it and it's because of the iPhone. They don't care about the Thunderbolt. And they will market it along with LTE, heavily, once the iPhone fervor dies down. Verizon doesn't know when that will be, and they're not making any announcements until it does.

If nothing I'm saying is making sense, then please, continue clinging to false hope.

I'm not clinging to anything. It comes out when it comes out. From what we've heard, it was slated for 2-14 and was pushed back.

Let me simply say, there is no common sense to be had in a situation where you have no credibility and are solely supporting the forever persistent conspiracy that Apple and VZW are on a mission to make people cry themselves to sleep while they build golden mansions.

Please, stop trying to pass your pessmism off as "common sense".

Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't realize that not having the same opinion as everyone else was against forum policy. I'm not trying to be rude, I'm not being disrespectful, I'm not calling names or getting angry. I'm just disagreeing and I'm offering what evidence I have to form my opinion on the matter. I'm not pretending to be certain of anything, or having mythical unicorn sources, gurus, sales reps, regional managers or Best Buy stock boys whispering in my ear.

I'm taking what happened so far, what I've read and what I know about business and helping all of not be too disappointed this Thursday when the TB isn't released.

Now, is that really a reason to get angry or cause conflict? I don't think so.
u can state ur opinion but when u start talking about "use common sense" and "clinging to false hope" your crossing the line the 24th would be a great date and if not so would the 3rd!!! and i never thought it was coming out on the 14th for the same reasons u state! but the 24th is far enough away from the iphone launch

I would buy this - if there were more people going from AT&T to Verizon when the iPhone launched, but it was a dud (from all reports out there). I think people are waiting for the iPhone 5 or for their contracts to end or waiting for talk/surf on Verizon.

You are right in that there are very few new phone subscribers. Most new customers are kids and they get added in as a $10 extra line fee on their parent's plan.

The differentiator here for Verizon data network speed (4G) - their first 4G phone is the TB. That is how they get attacked in the marketplace (slow network speeds).

I think the sooner Verizon gets this phone out there, the better for them.

I definitely agree with you here, both on the iPhone not being quite as much of a groundbreaker as Vz hoped - and on their 4G network being their big differentiator. The thing is, people care more about the iPhone then they do about the data speed right now - so they will likely wait and jump ship once the iPhone 5 is released on LTE. Verizon knows this just as well as they know they're probably not going to win anyone over to their network just for a Thunderbolt. It's an enthusiast phone and it's not winning people over like the iPhone will.

That said, it depends on your perspective - Verizon has probably won more subscribers over from AT&T with the iPhone this month than they have with any other device ever. It is their future - the Thunderbolt will come out soon, but probably not until all their ducks are in a row with the iPhone.

You are aware that Verizon almost always releases phones on Thursdays right?

I hadn't noticed that, no. But in this case I think not. Still too close to those 3G iPhone4 sales and their return date. Besides, that Thursday is Xoom day. If its correct that the Xoom will be unsubsidised, then there would be no reason to buy a Xoom and activate 3G service on it if you could buy a 4G phone with a hotspot the same day and run it on WiFi. I think it'll be pushed to the weekend.

You can't use Wifi on the Xoom until you activate at least a month of service though right?

I believe that that is just a rumor that will turn out to be incorrect. That would require a software push to unlock based on your 30 days subscribed mark. Its too much work for too little revenue if they are indeed unsubsidised. A device without a subsidy to lower the price won't have a service commitment. The market won't stand for it and the backlash won't be worth the extra revenue.

I'm just trying to make you feel better Sansavi :)

Look, I'm sorry if I'm making the Vz and Apple thing sound like a "conspiracy." This is simple business - iPhone is going to be Vz's breadwinner (and subscriber converter) for the foreseeable future and they're going to foster that relationship. I don't think that's a stretch of the imagination.

I know stupid huh? He takes care of multi-million dollar earning companies and doesnt know his crap. Verizon has really screwed the pooch on this launch, and if this has been a PR play, they really suck!

How has Verizon "screwed the pooch"? Verizon never ever not even once mentioned a release date. From the time of the CES till now all they have ever said was 1st quarter 2011. The first quarter ends on March 31.

Everyone is getting so upset at Verizon and they have done nothing wrong. Any mention of a release date has been nothing more than speculation.
As far as the BB ad goes, those things are printed up weeks in advance and I have no doubt that when those ads were printed, that was the intended release date but things change and obviously have.

Just take a deep breath, relax and enjoy the phone when it gets here. Life is too short to get so wound up about such small things.

Its crazy what drama rumors can start, but i guess we have to remember that we are a minority, so its not like we are really worying VZW with our complaining. They vast majority of Verizon customers had no idea that the TB was rumored to be released in Feb, or even what a TB is for that matter. I think it will be released this week; Best Buy couldnt just be making up dates, they were clearly told by someone. Whether VZW changes these dates remains to be seen, although at this point, further delay would be pointless. PLUS they stared airing commercials, so they are ready for the masses to know about it. Very good sign.

Effington.. all i can say to you is.. thats how you take a risk! Either you are going to be the man come Feb 24th (if the phone does not release) or you are going to be the fool everyone makes fun of (if the phone does release). Either way.. my hats off to you for going against the grain.

And, although I do not enjoy your pessimism, I do agree that Verizon really doesn't give a crap about any of us. It's business. You are in business to make money and the iphone is what makes money. I hate apple and even mentioning that word brings anger inside BUT.. the masses flock to it because its about as dumb a smartphone as you can get. Or, is it the smartest phone because even the dumbest person can use it?

HaHa Nobody is more negative than me!! and if u been following for the last 4months you would know that!! but know there is tons of actual fact that this phone is coming out and for once i will actually agree with MIAMI this phone is coming out on thursday!

I have always seen the potential customer base of the Android and iPhone to be different. Maybe a 10-15% crossover. Based on the VERY small sample on this thread, there are (1) first gen Android folks and (2) non-smartphone upgrade folks (like me) looking for the TB.

I see the TB having a Droid X type release - very popular.

The very interesting things will be if Verizon gets the iPhone 5 and if it is 4G. If it comes out this summer... it will be VERY interesting...

I tried again with 20784 and got Kimberly (who I've already talked to. She's clueless about a release date)

The 24th could be quite possible. Or even the 28th.

I was at Verizon earlier and took some tome to speak to a rep, he said that while there was no release date in the system. It should be soon. He also told me that he got one device in so he could test it out out this evening.

With all the commercials and advertisements on the net I would guess we will hear something tomorrow. If not tomorrow it will be this week. The commercials are allowing them to spread the word, get the general public (those that dont cruise these forums 24/7) informed.

All they are doing by advertising it with no release date is buying time until all those that jumped on the iphone cant return them for something better. Having people return the iphone for the TB makes both apple and VZW look stupid. Granted, they may have needed this time to work out what sounds like a few bugs.

I wonder just how big of a release this will be since alot of America does not have LTE and wont for some time. I want the phone but I am nowhere near a 4G area, makes it hard to shell out $300 for a phone when I can wait a year, hopefully have 4G, and a quad core in hand. True the general public hasn't even heard of a quad core phone but my point is they are promoting the blistering speed of 4G on this phone...If I am Joe phone buyer, I dont need this phone because I dont have 4G. Then again, everybody wants the next big thing, maybe big red can ride that wave...

Either way, heres hoping to an official announcement tomorrow!
