How to sync phone with mac?

I just purchased an HTC Thunderbolt and it is my first Android phone which I really don't know how to use yet. My home computer is an imac and that is where I have all my music and my contacts from my old phone. Now I just need to know how can I sync my contacts and get my music to my new phone. I use gmail for everything but I just backed up my contact list on my computer which happens to be a mac thinking I could just plug it in to sync it.
