also this seems like a lot of work .. there is nothing they can do for me at verizon store??

The sbf file is a file the will flash the stock os to your phone.

You could take it to verizon. They may be able to "reset" it for you. There are some youtube videos about flashing an sbf to the D1 too. That might help

Using RSD to flash a sbf file is extremely simple and not that huge a deal. Sure as hell will be faster than taking it to Verizon. The only caveat is that you'll need to reinstall all your applications unless you can find a non root backup tool. I use Titanium so can't comment on a good one that doesn't require root. I just wouldn't get turned off by all the directions shown on how to flash your phone using RSD. It really is simple, and also EXTREMELY valuable to know how to do it.
