How to get notifications like iPhone?

Like if I have a notification on my iPhone it will show a number by the app. Similar to how on the Droid if I have a text it will put the number there. But how would I get this show for something like aim or google voice?

if you want it on the homescreen, you need a widget to do that. might search the market for it. i know of some 3rd party apps for texting and email that does this.

some apps should by default show a number in the notification bar..

for texts, you can get Handcent or ChompSMS.

for emails, i'm not sure...

K9 mail will show a message count in the task bar, but not sure if it will show accounts individually or in total. I think pure messenger may also do this, but not sure.

Personally, I don't like the message count. I have a full screen widget, a mail icon is enough to get me to check it. Does it really matter if you have 1 unread message or 10? Takes 1 second to look (pure messenger widget can show only unread emails).

There is an app called gmail unread count which is a widget and will show the count but I don't know about AIM or google voice
