How do you turn off data usage droid x

I'm going on a trip to northern quebec canada in a week.I was told that when I enter canada if my data usage is on it will cost a arm and a leg. is this under setting, data manager, data delivery? I really don't want to have apps running in the background unknowingly.

Settings > wireless and networks > mobile networks. That should do it...

Gives me two options, automatic and home only. Its on automatic now so I assume home only is the choice.

what about data delivery option s? Would I turn that off as well?

I suggest turning off everything in that category, I doubt it will effect anything else.
