How do I register for IRC

How do I register for IRC? I saw a place to sign in for IRC but I didn't see a place to register. This was on the www. sourceryrom. com

Here is how you register for an irc
Go on to the irc how you usually do with the nick you want
then do the following commands

Type /msg nickserv register your_password where "your_password" is a password of your choice


u can register an email by doing this

/msg nickserv set email your_email_address where "your_email_address" is your email address​

When I try and do this IRC tells me I have an erroneous name? I guess I guess I should add that I have never registered for IRC before... Will this make a difference? I am sorry, I have only been at this about a month and don't quite have everything down yet :huh: Thanks for the help and explainations
