How do I get rid of a virus?

So I am pretty sure I have a virus...I turned off my phone and when I restarted it I have adds in the drop down menu. You can mark them as read or w.e., but they come back periodically so I know there is some kind of virus on my phone. I havent downloaded new apps in weeks so i have no idea which one caused it. My friend also has the exact same one on her phone. I know a factory reset will get rid of it, but is there anything I can do before having to resort to that?

Thanks guys!

If you truly believe that you have a virus, I wouldn't try any other method than doing a factory reset. In fact I wouldn't necessarily trust that alone and would use the fastboot files to return it to stock.

If you're not sure if it's a virus or not, what I would try to do is think of what applications you may have installed prior to this happening and remove them. Then if you still wish to use the apps you removed, install them one at a time and see if your problems come back. Android hasn't had many confirmed cases of viruses, so there's a good chance it's just a rogue program pushing ads on you.

Search the Google Play Store for "Airpush Detector". Its not a virus. You downloaded a game that uses airpush for advertisements. Just use the detetcor app to remove the offending app.

how to move virus from your droid

it is suggested to do a factory reset , However ive done this and still no resolution. Here is what you need to do remove your scan disk micro chip by taking out your battery and the little memory card that is there remove it and toss it, yes you will have to buy a new one the virus is still going to remain on it regardless if you do a factory reset for some reason it does not remove the virus unless you take this card out and than do a factory reset. I assure you this will fix it you will not be able to take pictures until you buy a new memory card

Uh they are air push notifications, not a virus.

:blink I think I either got a virus or something happened when there was a so-called software update. All my pics were pushed to a folder buried in 'my files' [took me a while to find them] and my Gallery feature doesn't work anymore. Anybody experience anything similar?

i would back up any pics and important stuff then do a factory reset. likely something went wrong with the update.

I'm thinking you got the carrier software update ..in which case it's 4.2 and the file structure is different now...clear gallery data/cache.go to settings ..manage applications...find gallery under ALL tab...clear data and cache...reboot phone let it rescan your pics...report back...

Yea it's quite confusing when they call sd card the internal storage... Who was the brainchild behind that?
Now extSdCard is the external storage.

Alan.. Sent with GS4
