how can I install update without root?

I have a co worker that wants to update his phone without rooting it whats the best way? I tried http://www.droidforums.net/forum/motorola-droid-bionic/180643-heres-5-5-893-update-file-str8-moto-no-root-necessary.html with no luck

That would be the needed file. Does not require ROOT and is applied via STOCK RECOVERY process. If we knew the issue/error it might help us help you/him.
