how can I get rid of the people I follow on Twitter from my contacts?

I was surprised that when I loaded Twitter on my Droid X automatically all the people I follow on Twitter were put in my contacts list. I don't want that. How can I get rid of that?

Uncheck sync contacts in twitter settings.

I tried that. Didn't work. I also uninstalled the Twitter app and that didn't delete them from my contacts list.

I have absolutely no need or want to have everyone I'm following on Twitter show up in my Contacts list... just makes the list too long.

Any other ideas?
