Holster for Droid X turns on my phone

I just bought a new holster made just for a Droid X. I bought it because it has loops that you can run your belt through. Well, when I put my DX into the holster the phone screen turns on. I'm assuming that it's the magnetic strip that keeps the cover closed. When I have the DX out of the holster and barely touch the screen with the magnetic strip, the screen will turn on. My concern is that the magnetic strip is too strong and may screw up my phone--plus, if the screen stays on when holstered by battery will drain quickly. I'm not going to use the holster until I read some recommendation from this site.

Battery drain is the only real concern. The magnet won't damage your device.
