I just downloaded a file with the extension .rar was that a bad thing to do? It said it was a swipe apk but I can't find it now

It is probably in the downloads folder of your SD card and should be deleted - this is one of the downfalls of trying to illegaly obtain copyrighted and protected material

Discussion of distribution of Swype isn't allowed here. Either it's delivered with your device or you're in their beta.
