Handscent vs GOSMS

Which do people prefer and do both have unlimited message capacity? I just got the d4 and it limits messages to 999 per thread which really sucks

I've had handcent for a couple years and they've really been doing a good job in my opinion. You can make it the default messaging app, therefore no more message limit (which comes from the stock app). I haven't tried GoSMS.

Handcent is awesome! I had Go SMS but apparently it left no impression on me because I can hardly remember it.

Handcent is completely customizable and there is no messaging limit.

I also recommend using titanium backup if you are rooted to remove the stock app as it can get annoying receiving two notifications for every message. Or you could turn off notifications from the app settings if you are not rooted.

+1 for Handcent. I have never heard a negative comment on GO sms though. Both are highly customizable to the users needs. I have had handcent since my OG Droid and I am still finding new things.

You do not need to be rooted to stop the issue of 2 messages. Go to your native messaging app. Open it. Tap menu/settings/notification/uncheck.

And I also prefer Handcent to go ..

I did say you can do it from the native app also if he is not rooted.

My husband uses Handcent, I use GOsms. I like both. I use Go because I use GO Launcher. To me they seem the same.

On a side note; is there a way to remove all the Handcent picture options, when sending a picture message? I hate having to go through their list of options before i get to MY gallery.

How do you make handscent display messages as like blocks one on top of another instead of with the comic strip standard bubbles?

Open handset and go to settings and conversation style is what I believe you are looking for. There are a number of different options to choose from

I have been happy with Go SMS. I like the widget better than the widget for Handscent. Both have similar functionality otherwise, and are better than the native app.

Been using Handcent since the OG Droid days. Tried using GoSms and I was dying to uninstall it. If you're concerned about losing your messages...do what I do; install SMS Backup by Jan Berkel in the Play Store. Great app.

My handscent seems to be stopping at 1000 messages per thread. I thought you could make it unlimited? Does handscent have a limit of messages per thread?

The messaging limit is probably coming from the stock app.

Is anyone aware of a fast and lightweight app? While I enjoy themes, I mostly use Go for the ability to customize notifications by contact, but feature creep is getting annoying. I'm fairly sure that Chomp and Handcent are heavy as well, although I'm going to try them.

Maybe it's just because I'm easy to please, but I have been in love with GoSMS since the day I got a hold of it. I love the fact I can answer texts through a pop up and can theme it to match the motif of the rest of my phone. I tried Handscent way back in the day, but didn't like it. Maybe it's different now...

Handcent has a pop up to reply to texts also. And a lot of customizable features also.
